establishing nation wide backbone network
to provide broad band capacity to various
telecom service providers like ISP’s,
Cellular operators, Government
Departments, Broadcasters etc. for voice,
data, video and other value added telecom
services.
POWERGRID has already laid about 4000 Kms
of optic fibre on the transmission lines
connecting various cities and as on date,
bandwidth can be provided on Delhi -
Chandigarh & Delhi – Jaipur
route. In next two years POWERGRID plans
to lay 14,000 Kms of optic fibre
connecting 56 cities in India. POWERGRID
has accorded top priority to Delhi –
Mumbai section and it is expected that
Optic Fibre Connectivity in Delhi –
Mumbai section through other important
cities like Dadri, Moradabad, Lucknow,
Jabalpur, Dhule, Nasik etc. shall be
commissioned by March 2002
