OPTICAL MODEMS AND
TELEPHONY INTERFACE
Optical fiber modes and telephony interface uses laser diodes
for trnsnmision and PIN photo detectors for the detection of the
signal at the other end. The laser diodes and the PIN photodiodes
are provided with pigtails to connect to optical fiber cable
fibers and have electrical terminals at the other end. At present
the sysstem uses amplitude modulation for the purpose of input of
the information over the laser diode output. The output for a
system capable of transmissio over 50 Kms will be around - 5 dbM
and the sensitivity of the photo detector around - 40 dbm. Wit
fiber losses around 0.25 db per Km such systems can work
satisfactorily over 50 Kms satisfacorily.
