Voice over IP

Voice over IP is the new revolution in telecommunication technology. So far telecommunication had been limited by physical constraints but now with the concept of voice over IP telecommunication will really become human.

This makes the telecommunication infrastructure very different from the other infrastructure. All infrastructure suffer from the physical constraints which those infrastructure are not in a position to bypass. This is very important diference between normal infrastructurre and the telecommunication infrastructure with the support of voice over IP concept.

Why voice over IP is likely to have a good future is the fact that it strives to make the medium understand the human beings favoured mode of communicating with each other. Consider a situtation in a hall filled with large number of people with each of them talking with each other. When two persons talk to each other in such a room when they are close to each other they talk in a certain manner while when they talk to a person located at two corner of the hall they would speak in a different way. The difference lies in two facts:

a) When they are close to each other they would not shout and talk to each other irrespective of whether other people are talking or not.

b) When they have to talk across the room they wold wait till the general level of noise in the room has died down so that the voice can carry across the room. This means that under such a situation the passage of communication would be slower in progress but can be carried out as long as the voice is audible between the two corners.

Traditional telecommunication system concentrated on the loss of audibility over distance and concetrated on ensuring the range of audible voice is increased without limit so to say by amplification, provision of channels. The fact that human speech has pauses in between which allows a two persons to speak in crowded hall was not used for economics. The equivalent of this is to have as many rooms as there are pairs of speakers in party. As this would make arrangment for a party extremely expensive it has also made the traditional telecommunication circuits expensive. Here is the role over the voice over IP where pauses in human speeches and the statistics of pauses where large number of persons speak is the core to the design of a voice over IP system.
